This is me with my father, Richard Manning, Sr. (Yes, I am named after him). When he meets friends or new players of ours, he likes to introduce himself as “The Real Rich Manning”. I thought I would return the favor and name this blog after him.I was born and raised in Southern California with my younger brother, Mike, and sisters Beth and MaureenMy dad went to register Mike and I up for a 2nd year of baseball and it was full. So we had to play soccer. I ended up liking it.I kind of liked it and had a great time playing AYSO, High School and Spring Select with my buddies at Winnetka United. My family and I survived high school, even with some questionable 80’s hair styles.I was lucky enough to play soccer and study at Santa Clara University. After college, I really thought I could be the next Freddy Mercury.Or start my own boy band. But reality set in. I ended up teaching high school math at Servite and Los Alamitos High Schools. I coached boys and girls at those schools. And I helped my friends, Larry and Tad, with the So Cal Blues club. Then I had a wonderful opportunity to go back to Santa Clara and coach with the women’s team.I saw this field when interviewing for the Utah job in 2002. Who could say no?!I met this wonderful Hall of Famer, Sue Moynihan, when she was coaching at Purdue. Her dad said it was okay if I asked her out.Now she is my smoking hot wife!We wanted to have a small wedding in Napa, CA. But our families couldn’t believe either of us were finally getting married. So everyone came.We danced!I worked with some great people. These are some of the BEST moments. And so are these! We moved to Illinois to be closer to Sue’s family. We didn’t realize how much STUFF we have! Now, I coach at Northwestern with this incredible view!…and with this incredible crew. GO ‘CATS!I’ve got some fantastic co-workers.Cheers!
